Self Help and Reality

Without our dreams, all we have is reality. And although reality is essential for getting what you want, if you are overly realistic, you may kill off your passion. When we live primarily focused on reality, most of our energy goes towards fixing what¡¯s wrong or getting rid of what we don¡¯t want. There's a different kind of energy, and much more joy, when you are moving toward your dreams than when you are mired in reality or trying to fix something.

Reality does have a place in self help though. Reality can keep you from setting unattainable goals. When reality seeps into your thoughts and prevents you from setting lofty goals that are not possible, it keeps you from failing and becoming depressed by your failures. Instead reality steers you to set attainable goals so that you can enjoy the confidence that comes with reaching these realistic goals.

Believe in Self Help

Attitudes and beliefs are never neutral. They either move you forward or hold you back. If your dream is to start your own business but you believe it will be too hard or that you might fail, your thoughts and feelings will concur that this is a bad idea and your decision might be to forget about it. But the same dream with a belief such as ¡°I can do this¡± or ¡°I believe in my dream,¡± will take you to thoughts and feelings of excitement and hope, and ultimately to the choice to go for it, or at least to explore it.

Attitudes and Beliefs

Attitudes and beliefs are at the core of self help. If you believe it's possible to make your dreams come true, yet you don't do it, there's a gap between where you are and where you want to be. That gap is comprised of your attitudes and beliefs. The bigger the negative beliefs, the wider the gap. Perhaps the voice of your doubter has gotten louder than the voice of your dreamer.

Self Help Involves Dreams

Set up your life so you're always moving toward what you want. If the dream is to be healthy and vibrant, to feel and look good, a different kind of energy will be applied than to the drudgery of getting rid of excess weight by diet and exercise. Create a dream that matters more to you than your reality. Every day, ask yourself, ¡°Am I more committed to my dream or to my reality?¡± If the answer is your dream, take action to prove it to yourself and to others. When you find yourself thinking in a way that conflicts with your goals or performing actions that conflict with your goals you have to stop and reevaluate your strategy for success. These thoughts and actions may be necessary but each time you find something that conflicts with your goals you should reassess the situation to ensure that you are helping yourself in the best way possible.

Self Doubt vs. Health and Happiness

You have a dream and are killing yourself trying to achieve it. You're weary and begin to doubt your vision and yourself. At this rate, you'll never get to enjoy your dream. Don't sell out on your health and happiness to make your dream happen. Along the path to your dream, take care of your body, mind, heart and soul and you will deliver unto this world your heart's desire. Pushing yourself beyond your physical or mental limitations can be very draining and detrimental to both your dream and your health. Maintaining a healthy balance of pursuing your goal in conjunction with your everyday activities will help to keep you happy, healthy and productive.

Self Help Needs Positive Attitude

The critical question regarding self help is whether you're more committed to remaining where you are or to getting where you want to be. The difference between the two will propel you forward. You're likely to hear an inner voice whispering all your limitations: your attitudes and beliefs, concerns, fears and worries. Luckily, your positive attitude and beliefs also will arise: You do believe your dream is possible, it's something you've always wanted, something to which you're committed, something you know you can have. Working on having a positive attitude can be the best way to combat a negative attitude.
